DJENLING
A race of horned imps who have made their homes within the peaks of the Karkenzithe Mountains and the rolling grasslands of the Piyaqu Steppe. Amongst their population, there exists four major ethnic groups - their nomadic lifestyles being one of the only commonalities they share with one another. Despite reigning as the second largest population on the continent, the Djenling are severely hindered by inner turmoil that plagues their houses, divided by political lines and religious, and irreligious, differences. This being said, the technological innovations by the Djenling, namely those of Yanta-Yuri, cannot be understated with even the forces of the Seraphim being wary of striking their ire.
KARKENZITHE DJENLING (2024)
Hailing from the Karkenzithe Mountains, these Djenling are famed for being able to traverse high altitudes with little to no issue for both the frigid temperatures along with depleted oxygen - their lot sometimes being employed as mountaineers. They are known to herd a variety of animals, mainly Flots - traveling up and down the mountain slopes as the season demands. Their mountainous lifestyle has impacted them even beyond culture, affecting them physically as well; the Karkenzithe Djenling being the shortest of the all the Djenling groups. This in turn has also pushed them to utilize extremely long rifles (perhaps in compensation of their stature). Suffice to say, Karkenzithe sharpshooters have been known to shoot at predators stalking their herds from miles away with these rifles.
OUTLANDER DJENLING (2024)
Djenling have a natural wanderlust that comes to them because of their nomadic origins, many seeking to carve their own paths away from the greater groups. While the Yanta-Yuri’s claim to fame is the massive landship, of the same name; smaller landship-nations exists across the central regions of Sucra-Loca - operating under their own customs and laws, flying their own banners; some even having their own religions - much to the shegrin of the antitheist of Yanta-Yuri. This particular Djenling is a bounty hunter played by my friend Kealey. (And no, I didn’t draw the revolver too big - the H’atun Revolver fires a .729 caliber ball - it’s supposed to be real big!)
PIYAQU STEPPE DJENLING (2024)
The Piyaqu Steppes (Piyaqu being the Djenq word for “wild”) are a rugged and lawless place - but life manages, somehow. The Djenling of the land have adapted themselves to a life of ranching and animal husbandry as not much beyond grass grows here. They are skilled in horsemanship, using their mounts to great effect - both for their livestock, but also against those they deem as trespassers against their tribal confederacies. Money here has little value beyond jewelry or trinkets, animals and their fur being the primary trade good - with severe punishments being reserved for rustlers and horse thieves. The people here are known for strict and harsh practices, with little tolerance for those who seek to usurp traditional norms. They also have little patience for foreigners. However, there are some non-Djenling who have found homes within these realms, earning respect from tribal leaders through their skills.
YANTA-YURI DJENLING (2023)
The Djenling of Yanta-Yuri are the most recent of the Djenling subgroups to have come into being. Once known to be a group of outcasts, these Djenling were set upon by various groups across the ages, like the ancestors of the Khuzang’aro and, most recently, the Idro - forced to work within the great war foundries and factories. Animosity grew within these Djenling, animosity against the Idro and the ideologies that they had pushed, endorsing the Djenlings’ enslavement. After a decade-long revolution, the Djenling were able to grasp their freedom and created the Great Landship: Yanta-Yuri, which has wrought havoc upon the Trenchscape for three-hundred years. A great machine like no other, the hulking mass towers over most cities, what few there are. Plumes of smoke can be seen from many miles away, both a sign of warning and a reflection of the factories the population used to be forced to work in. However, no longer are the Djenling working for others - they now fuel their own motivations, unbound by religious hierarchies that had previously ensnared them long ago.
YANTA-YURI DJENLING (2024)
Antitheism is the reigning ideology of the Yanta-Yuri, believing either that the gods are beings of great and tremendous power, but with mortal (albeit long) lifespans; or are entirely false, created by the superstitions of a wary, ignorant, fools. Regardless, the Yanta-Yuri fan out across the Central Trenchscape and the lower foothills of the Karkenzithes with the task of fueling their great city for one final attack against the Seraphim - but to also stomp out religion amongst the other nations, whether they be other species or their own kinsmen. They have been known to also enslave other nations, as a form of revenge for past transgressions - however, when they come across other Djenling that do not prescribe to the Yanta-Yuri’s views, they refer to it as “conscription” or “impressment” for what better good could a Karkenzithe or Piyaqu Djenling perform, than that of service for the champions of their people, the Yanta-Yuri?
