HARQAA

Great in size and leathery of skin, the Harqaa are an ancient people group of rhino-like appearance who resided on the continent far before recorded history - some believing the Harqaa to be the eldest of the races, the first and foremost. Up until recently, the Harqaa lived similarly to their ancestors, changing very little as the ages progressed, keeping to their orthodox traditions of self-reflection, metaphysical question, and deep pontification. However, the influence of the World Beyond the Grasses soon encroached upon their humble dwellings. First, it was the distant scent of smoke in the wind, the sky looming with dark grey clouds overhead. Then, it was the Men of the Mud, the trenches had been growing closer and closer to their ancestral homelands. Finally, the Great Fire swept through, burning through the prarie, coating with ash and char, forever turning it black. To this day, the fire still rages on.

HARQAA CONJURER (2023)

Considered as crazed mages by both the Seraphim and the petty warlords of the Trenchscape - many Harqaa have taken up arms in defense of a new homeland in the Iverhorn Range, a place called Nagar-Tul by the Harqaan natives. Despite their appearance, many Harqaa have keen knowledge of the magical arts; a tradition passed down by the famed sorcerer Thog of the Rock - a wanderer who pushed for peaceful coexistence and harmony with the natural world and the deepening of arcane practice. It is said that the Harqaa have Thog to thank for their horns - a key feature that helps amplify their connection to spellcraft. Legend states that Thog had himself trepanned early in his pilgrimage in order to see the world’s truth and discover its wonders. Many aspiring mages travel to Nagar-Tul in order to train with the first masters, but must swear fealty to the protection of the new Harqaan homeland against those that seek to exploit the remaining Harqaa.

HARQAA PRARIE DWELLER (2024)

While the prarie lies burnt and forsaken, some Harqaa refuse to leave their ancestral homelands, either through stubborness or a small hope the alnds will recover. Their skin is darker than their brethren in the mountains, and they live a much more quiet and humble lifestyle. They wander the Burnt Praries, searching for some instance of life akin to what their forefathers saw. They are naturally distrusting of outsiders, but will offer what they can in accordance to the teachings of Thog of the Rock. Even as the fires rage on, there is said to be a myriad of temples and shrines, from both Harqaan and Somatic Origin leading intrepid adventures to seek fame and fortune within these lands - soimething the Harqaan Prarie Dwellers despise.

HARQAA SAPPER (2024)

The unfortunate reality for most Harqaa, employed as simple trench diggers and something akin to pack animals by the larger nations. As continuing to live on the prarie is one of strife and struggle, and as tensions begin to rile up between Nagar-Tul and the other nations; most of the Harqaan people seek safety for themselves and their families, offering their services to even due the most menial of jobs. While in the service of others, they are strictly forbidden of participating in their ancient customs and from speaking their native tongue with practicing magecraft being punishable by death. However, while the jobs they perform offer little coinage and little respect, the Harqaa continue to endure for their kin, as they have throughout the age of their ancestors, as they will now; remaining hopeful that things will change.
